Thank you for taking the time to check out the Walking on Sunshine Team blog!
We hope this site can be a simple way to keep our friends, family and supporters up to date with our progress and training whilst we prepare and eventually partake in Trailerwalker 2009.
Trailwalker is a 100km trek for teams of four, over thirty hours across the South Downs, all the way from Petersfield to Brighton!! Drawing on a range of skills from teamwork, stamina, and most importantly, navigation we hope to simply make it across the finish line!
So why do this?? Well, through all the physical pain that this type of event will cause both to us as a team and our support crew we hope to raise an incredible, credit crunch busting, £2000 for The Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam.
Trailwalker was first held 25 years ago by the Queen's Gurkha Signal Regiment as a training exercise. It has subsequently grown and is now held annually in seven other countries. The challenge is not to be underestimated... we will be walking the equivalent of two and a half marathons plus the ascent of Ben Nevis in under 30 hours! The current course record is a terrifying 9 hours 50 minutes... although for Walking on Sunshine it will be all about reaching that finish line!
We have included the official Trailwalker 2009 video below, as well as the classic Katrina and the Waves hit that inspired our team name. Sod's law we will now be blessed with rain!! We would love you to leave us comments and take part in our polls as well.
So please keep checking back to our site for updates on our progress with training and fundraising.
We would love you to help us along our way by donating at our JustGiving webpage (www.justgiving.com/walkingonsunshine-2009).
Thank you!
Becks, Owen, Emily and Jeff.
